Multichannel Collage
Multichannel Collage is a multichannel sculptural installation that spatializes field recordings of dense urban soundscapes, where the activities of human life can be heard against the industrial rumble of machines. At the center of the installation stands a highly reflective satellite dish with photo-resistors protruding out from behind it. A motor casts shadows onto the disk and the audio is distributed to different speakers based on where the shadows are cast, creating an association between movement and sound. This way of collaging these urban sounds is not unlike the context in which they exist - contingent on the movement of space, constantly changing, fading in and out. Further, metal rods protruding from the speakers, creates another form of movement in the space, showing which loud speakers are being activated by the spatialization.
